Remedies for Life

Life, although beautiful, has the ability to tear us down and it often does. But this does not make life any less amazing or at least it doesn’t have to. As humans, we have the ability to direct and control our lives. Some people take full advantage of this skill but others, while getting tossed in the winds of life, forget that they are in control. When life gets a little hard, it is important that we use this ability to have some fun.

Relaxing and having fun does not have to be going on vacation 5,000 miles away. It can be in your own home or city. Slip on some socks and slide across the kitchen floor. Use a mop as a microphone and sing your favorite songs. Pop some popcorn, FORGET THE CALORIES, and watch a funny movie you used to love. These activities will push away adult commitments for a while and remind you of less difficult times. If hitting the city for the nightlife is your idea of fun, switch it up a bit. Try a different resturant is a different part of the city that you normally go to. Having the waiter or waitress pick out what you will eat presents an element of surprise. Afterwards, feed the birds around a pond or lake. These things, although simple, can be great de-stressers.

If you have tried these things and are still stuck in a rut, spicing up your exercise routine can spice up your whole life! Women, put yoga on hold and try belly dancing, kick boxing, or bicycling. Men, replace your weights with swimming, basketball, and CrossFit. By doing these things, you will get an amazing workout and you might just find out a new favorite way of exercising!

Yes, life throws challenges at us. But does that mean we are forced to stay unhappily put in a rut? Not at all. You control your life. So live it.

Pink Flower Pedals

My senior year of high school was a particularly rough time for me. College was approaching and I was trying to squeeze the last ounce of motivation I had to finish out high school. I was having trouble holding on. With every day came new challenges, new obstacles, and new worries. It wasn’t until one early morning while lying in bed that I found my motivation for conqueroring every bad issue that plagued my life. This one motivation was pink flowers.

Sitting on my night stand on this particular morning, was a crystal vase containing six of the most beautiful pink flowers that have ever blossomed. With just glance, the brightly colored flowers looked fragile, yet simple. Inside the plant, however, existed an intricate and beautiful design. While gazing at these flowers, I thought about how complex and complicated life is. But just because it is this way does not mean that life can not be something beautiful. In fact, the fights that we face daily and the trails that we overcome are things that make life so delicate, so complicated, and so intricate.

The next time life seems overbearing, focus on the simple things, like pink flowers. This will remind you the beauty of a situation though it looks difficult. Giving yourself this constant reminder and message will help you to keep situations and life in perspective and you might just find that your life is a pink flower pedal.
