The Source of Joy

It is a widely asked question: Where does happiness and joy come from? People spend years of their lives, even devoting themselves, to find the answer to this one question. Not many people find it, however. This is unfortunate considering that the answer is not far away at all. It’s can be found in a book called The Bible.  According to The Bible, God is the source of joy. (Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.- James 1:17 NIV)

Knowing that God gave us joy as a gift is just as important as knowing how to access this joy. According to Proverbs 12:20, joy comes from peace. (“..but joy for those who promote peace.) Peace brings joy but walking daily with God in his presence also brings about joy. This is stated in Psalm 21:6-“Surely you have granted him eternal blessings and made him glad with the joy of your presence.”

Both of this instances show the remarkable and amazing ways joy is given to us. But The Bible also mentions a different way that joy comes about. Suffering. Upon first hearing about this, intuition would tell us that that is wrong. With a study of the scripture, however, tells us that suffering does bring joy, if only looked with the right attitude. In James 1:2, it states “Consider it pure joy, my  brothers, whenever you face trials of manny kinds, because you know that the testing of your fiath develops perserverance.” To acquire joy through this way, one has to look at the big picture, not just an earthly view of problems.

Joy is accessible to anyone, if they believe in God and have faith in Jesus. When faith is put in Jesus and does things out of love for Him, there is no limit on the amount of joy attainable.
